We have already mentioned the influence of Molly Sharpes Chaman afghan hounds in the USA and Canada, now we explore one of the early imports to Australia - Aust Ch Taj Amigo Of Chaman. The Afghan hound was first introduced to Australia in the 1930's but these lines died out during world war two. The breed was re-introduced to Australia in the 1950's by various English people who emigrated to Australia, taking their hounds with them. One of these important second era pioneers was Mrs Barbara Skilton (El Tazzi) who worked for Mrs Peggy Riley (Bletchingley) in England in the 1940's. It was whilst handling a Bletchingley hound at a dog show in England that Mrs Skilton first saw the Chaman hounds of Molly Sharpe. A few years after Mrs Skilton moved to Australia she imported Taj Amigo Of Chaman because she felt felt her kennel " needed better body and bone", Chamans reach also extends to New Zealand in this era. Mrs Marie Howitt (Kazah, New Zealand) imported Viper of Davlen when she was living in South Australia. Viper had Chaman lines in the back pedigree. Viper (a dog) was used by Barbara Skilton on Taj Amigo offspring whilst Mrs Howitt was still resident there (Mrs Howitt eventually migrated to New Zealand). So the early Chaman export (Taj Amigo) became influential in both Australia and New Zealand
